When looking at different websites for different tutors or coaches offering their services to university students, make sure that you satisfy yourself that the individuals in question are suitable for Master’s level coaching and tutoring.

There are many firms which offer tutoring and support on “dissertations” generally, and appear to offer their services to undergraduates and postgraduates alike. However, as a very senior academic, I would offer some caution here. There is a big difference between Master’s (and PhD) level work and undergraduate work – and a tutor who only holds an undergraduate degree themselves will not be adequately qualified to act as a tutor to you at Master’s level.

To provide general support for you at Master’s degree level, in my view a tutor or coach must have the following at an absolute minimum –

PhD qualification – Your tutor should hold a doctorate, demonstrating advanced research and academic writing expertise
Recent university experience – Look for someone who has worked as a lecturer or above at a respectable university for at least 3 years
Proven track record – Seek evidence of successful Master’s student supervision and teaching experience
